Ex-militants invade Igbinedion University this morning

I’ve been getting quite a number of SOS messages all morning from female
students of the Igbinedion University, Okada, Benin City. According to them,
ex-militants invaded their school by 5am this morning (they are still there at
the time of filing this report). The are destroying cars and macheting people.
Several of the male students have been injured. They’ve also blocked the main
gate of the school so no one can come in or go out!

There’s a lot of
chaos going on in the school right now and the students are scared to the death
as the militants have gained access into one of the girls hostel.

Please
we are calling on relevant authorities to go to the school right now and help
these students. Will tell you all later why the school was invaded. Right now
let’s try and help these students. Call anyone you know that can be of
help…

Update: The school is now calm. No life was lost but several
students were injured. New reports suggest it was a clash between students and
ex-militants who are also students of the school. – Linda Ikeji
