It has been God all the way and it has been good. You can only try as human and God will do the rest. I am happy doing what I love. I can remember when my grandmother saw a movie poster that had my picture boldly on it; she actually said I was at the right place I ought to be. She was happy I was in the industry. Initially, they had thought I would be a lawyer in my family because I always loved to argue. So some of them felt I would be a lawyer and others felt I would be an actress. They were all shocked when I went in for a science course in school.
I still have people who keep me humble. My family still keep me humble. I also have old friends who also keep me on my toes. They don’t see me as a star. When I am with them, I am always humble. And when I have such people surround me, I don’t allow stardom to get to my head. It is when you stay with fake people, that is when you will live a fake life and you will allow stardom to change who you are and you will end up becoming stupid. I still have people who keep me grounded. I am still myself.
As a lady, you just have to look good. A reasonable lady should be mindful of what she wears and how she looks. But then, when you are in the spotlight, you have to put in extra effort to look extra good because you already have people who are looking up to you, people who see you as their role model. There are places you can just decide to go and you wear normal denims and slippers and look so casual. But you may never know who you would bump into and the person would recognise you and be disappointed with what you are wearing. You just have to be cautious when you dress because all eyes are on you and people are looking at you. You need to up your game and look good at all times.
So are there things you now wear as an actress which you were not wearing before?
I wouldn’t say there is any new thing I now wear just because I am an actress. I only wear things that I am comfortable in. In fact, there are things I no longer wear just because I am now an actress. I used to wear micro miniskirts but I no longer wear such. I no longer wear bum shorts. I need to dress decently. Before, I could just wear my bum shorts and step out of the house. But I can’t do such again. I would rather wear pants and a jacket. There are people looking up to me, so I shouldn’t teach them that wearing bum shorts is a prim and proper stuff to wear.
Some ladies enjoy showing off cleavage, are you among those who love showing off a bit of their boobs?
No. I wear clothes that suit me. You might buy a top that you like and you wear it and you find out that the top is revealing. I have large boobs and any time I wear a top, my cleavage must show because of the size of my breast. I don’t go out of my way to buy tops so that I would show off my cleavage.
More deets when you continue…
Do you see your boobs as assets or are they a burden?
My boobs can never be a burden. If you see any part of your body as a burden, then that means you are questioning God. Every part of my body is perfect, including my boobs. I love all parts. I am proud of how I look.
But would you have wished for a bigger backside?
I used to wish my backside was bigger but I no longer do that. If you crave for a big bum, there are so many exercises that could help you achieve that. You can get big bum if you go to the gym. By the time you do some exercises religiously, the thing will come out. The only thing you may not be able to change is your height. But then, if you want to be tall, there are so many high heel shoes, you go for them. If you want to be short, then you wear flats.
Are you a shoe freak?
Oh, I have so many shoes. I can no longer count them. I use my shoes to shoot movies. I don’t use the ones on set. I know what I like so I use mine. And because of that, I always buy shoes because I wouldn’t want to use the same shoes for different sets.
Do you repeat clothes?
I keep buying clothes. But now, I have a stylist and it makes it cheaper. Before now, I would always buy and buy in order to avoid repeating clothes. In these days of social media, if you repeat clothes, people would even ‘yab’ you and call you names and stigmatise you. To avoid all these, I engage the services of a stylist. I tell a good stylist what I want and he brings it and you return after use. If you continue buying and buying, you will certainly go broke one day and you go back to your village.
Do you love make-up?
Every lady loves make-up. But then, I only make up when it is necessary. I prefer my face free most times. I found out that if I just do very light make-up, I would look so innocent and sweet and calm. But then, it also depends on where I am going. I have a make-up artiste and I engage her especially when I have an event to attend.
Have you always been light skinned?
Oh yes. I have never been a dark person. I try to maintain my skin colour by using my normal cream. The weather is very harsh so I try not to use harsh cream. I don’t want to be white; I just want to be myself.
What does your boyfriend love seeing you wear?
He likes me looking good and decent. He doesn’t like me exposing my body. He tells me I can still look decent and very classy instead of exposing my body.
And what do you like him to wear?
I love him on jeans and T-shirt, I go crazy. I would just say, ‘Wow! Is he all mine?’ I love him more each time I see him in that look.
