San Diego Comic-Con has unleashed a blitz of new trailers, but none were more eagerly anticipated than the debut clip for Aquaman, the Justice League star’s first stand-alone movie.

Alongside star Jason Momoa, the James Wan-directed film features Amber Heard as Atlantean warrior Mera, Patrick Wilson as Aquaman’s villainous half-brother, Orm, and Nicole Kidman as their mom, Queen Atlanna.

Atlanta’s lush underwater fantasia and the trailer’s fairly light tone suggest that DC’s been listening to critics who’ve bemoaned the thematic and visual darkness that often pervades their films.

Check it out below and let’s know what you think of the trailer.

Aquaman hits theaters on December 21st.
