Akpabio Reveals Plot To Impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki, Advices Him To Resign Or Be Impeached

Akpabio has advised Senate President Bukola Saraki to resign as lawmakers on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are planning to impeach him in a few days.

The APC Senators had agreed to drop the earlier planned impeachment move against Saraki at an executive session on Wednesday.

But after a brawl, after Saraki failed to recognize Akpabio at plenary on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, the Akwa-Ibom state senator revealed that a “new leadership” would soon be formed soon.

The former Akwa Ibom state governor asked Saraki to take a cue from his example and step down as Senate president. He said that it is on record that he tendered his resignation letter as minority leader when he defected from the PDP to APC.

He noted that in all sphere of endeavours as well as in democratic setting:

“the majority must always preside over the minority.”

It’s a tradition all over the world that when you defected to another party even as a Senate President like Saraki did, to resign from the office of the Senate President,”

“APC is still the majority party and they need to form a new leadership. The Senate President should honourably resign just like I did,”

Akpabio said he was fulfilled being a member of the APC while blaming the PDP “for doing nothing in the South-South in the last 16 years”.

  • That could be their plans but it has no base. There is a lot of disaffection among APC senators. Most of them are not having return ticket. This, it is not possible for them to impeach SP
