APC Headquarters Sacks Governor Rochas Okorocha As Campaign Coordinator
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has removed the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, as the party’s campaign coordinator in the state.
A few days after the committee chaired by Mathew Omegara summoned Governor Okorocha and six others to appear before it. The state chapter of the APC had already announced the suspension of the governor a few days ago.
The National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, confirmed that the APC has removed Okorocha as Imo campaign coordinator on Sunday.
Issa-Onilu said the decision followed the recommendation of the disciplinary committee set up by the Imo APC over allegations of anti-party activities levelled against the governor and others.
“What has happened in Imo shows that the APC means business. Once they have complied with all the rules, no problem. When they bring the recommendation to the NWC, we will look at it.”
“The APC had directed governors to take over the campaign of the party in the state. Where it has no governor, it directed governorship candidate to take over. Since Okorocha has displayed anti-party traits, you can’t expect him to be part of our strategic meetings again.”
“The party should be appreciated that it is possible to query a governor and recommend him for suspension.”
Okorocha has vowed to work in the interest of the governorship ambition of his in-law, Uche Nwosu, who is the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), against Hope Uzodinma of the APC.
