Chicago Police believe that Hollywood actor Jussie Smollett paid two Nigerian brothers to orchestrate an alleged assault on him and he rehearsed the attack with the two brothers.
This is coming after the police arrested the two bothers who are people of interest involved in the assault case on Jussie Smollett who was attacked weeks ago outside a restaurant in Chicago.
According to TMZ, the two men who are of Nigerian heritage (two brothers, Abel and Ola Osundairo) were said to have flown out of the country the night after the attack on the Empire star. However, the said men returned to the US on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
The police then took a swipe on the residence of the two men and a number of items of special interest including 5 bottles of bleach, a red hat, 2 laptops, and others were seized by the police.
The two Nigerians brothers who are said to have been extras on the TV series Empire were later taken in by the Chicago PD for questioning, to know if they’re the same men in the surveillance video screen grab.
Smollett, who is a black and gay, had told the police that he was physically attacked early January 29 by two white men who were yelling out racial and homophobic slurs and “This is MAGA country!”
After the arrest and interrogation of the two Nigerian brothers, the Chicago Police believed that actor Jussie Smollett actually paid the two bothers to orchestrate an alleged assault on him. He said his assailants wore Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats.
The two brothers, Abel and Ola Osundairo told cops they got in a car with Jussie and scouted a location, settling on the one right outside the actor’s apartment. The brothers said Jussie chose the spot because he believed a camera would have captured the action.
The police also report that Jussie Smollett asked the brothers not to attack him to the point where he would be badly bruised.
The brothers also claimed that on the night of the attack, even though they were nervous, they acted accordingly. At some point, a car drove by and they felt someone had spotted them.
Two brothers were released without charges Friday after Chicago police cited the discovery of “new evidence.”
A Chicago CBS affiliate reported that Smollett paid the two brothers to stage an attack against him, directed them to buy items used in the alleged assault and actually rehearsed it with them.
The brothers were paid $3,500 before leaving for Nigeria and were promised an additional $500 upon their return. They left for Nigeria later in the day on Jan. 29, after the attack
At least one of the brothers bought the rope used in the incident at Smollett’s request. The sources also say the “Empire” actor paid for the rope, which was purchased at the Crafty Beaver Hardware Store in the Ravenswood neighborhood the weekend of Jan. 25.
CBS reported that one of the brothers held the rope and poured bleach while the other wore a plain red hat and yelled slurs at Smollett.
Smollett’s lawyers have, however, denied he had a hand in the attack he claimed to have been carried out by two white men who changed Make America Great Again (MAGA). The lawyers, Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson said:
“Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. He has now been further victimised by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.
