“You’ll Not Suffer For Crimes You Didn’t Commit’ – FG Assures Nigerians Deported From Ghana

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians deported recently by Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) that they would not be made to suffer for crimes they did not commit.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, gave the assurance yesterday while reacting to the 723 Nigerians that were deported from Ghana over alleged illegal stay, cybercrime, and prostitution.

The Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Kwame Takyi, had said that the GIS had no choice but to act because of the conduct and behavior of some Nigerians in Ghana.

Kwame Takyi claimed that besides engaging in cybercrime and prostitution, some Nigerians had become laws in themselves; they do road blockages in major Ghanaian streets where they drink, fight and stab one another.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, gave the assurance yesterday while reacting to the development.

In reaction to the development, Dabiri-Erewa said thst the Nigerian ambassador in that West African nation, Olufemi Abikoye, was on top of the situation. She assured those deported that the matter would soon be resolved. She said:

“The story that hundreds of Nigerians being deported from Ghana is disturbing and worrisome. The good thing is that the Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana is on top of the situation. Now, he met with the Comptroller General of the Immigration in Ghana and they both had a very productive discussion.”
