Atiku Laments Over Continuous Detention Of His Son-in-law, Lawyer By EFCC Operatives

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has lamented over the alleged continuous detention of his son-in-law and lawyer by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

Atiku had on Saturday raised an alarm in a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, that his son-in-law, Babalele Abdullahi, who was the financial director of his campaign organization was allegedly arrested and detained in Abuja on Saturday by the operatives of EFCC.

The alleged arrest and continuous detention of Abdullahi and Atiku’s lawyer is coming few days after Atiku lost to the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress in the February 23, 2019, Presidential election.

Atiku had refused to call to congratulate the winner because he believes the election was manipulated in favour of the incumbent president.

In a tweet on Monday, Atiku lamented once again over his lawyer that has been in detention for 3 weeks and his son recently.

He wrote:

“My son in law and lawyer have been detained, one for three weeks and the other recently.”

“They are paying the price for supporting me. I urge those now persecuting them to remember that a government’s mandate is to pursue peace and justice for all, and not just those who support them.”

Atiku had insisted that he would under no circumstance “mortgage the mandate of Nigerians as freely expressed on the 23rd of February 2019.”

The EFCC and other relevant agencies are yet to react to the allegations by the former vice president.
