Tragedy struck at the Itafaji area of Lagos Island as many people including children were feared trapped on when a three-storey building containing a primary school collapsed in Lagos on Wednesday.
The primary school is said to be located on the top floor of the building, while the other structure is reported to be a residential building with several apartments.
Emergency and rescue workers are currently at the scene of the incident.
A resident of the area, Prince Adams, who alerted Punch correspondent to the incident on the telephone, said no fewer than 10 pupils had been removed from the rubble so far.
“It is terrible. Parents are crying. I can’t withstand the gorry sight,” he added.
According to reports, over 50 primary school pupils are still trapped in the rubble, at the time of filing this report.
Some of the rescued students have been rushed to the general hospital in Marina.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Kehinde Adebayo, confirmed the collapse, adding that emergency officials were already on ground.
