Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) marched to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja to protest the outcome of the just concluded presidential election.
According to a tweet by INEC, Uche Secondus, the PDP national chairman, led thousands of his party’s supporters to the commission’s office at Maitama around 3 pm. on Tuesday.
Atiku Abubakar, the party’s candidate in the election, lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari with over three million votes margin.
But the party has rejected the outcome of the election and vowed to challenge it in court over claimed that the election was militarised and the result fraught with irregularities.
The PDP leaders and members are were chanting solidarity songs in front of the INEC office amid heavy security presence.
The commission said some of its national commissioners, May Agbamuche-Mbu, Mohammed Haruna and Antonia Simbine, received the protesters.
INEC tweeted:
“Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party led by the party’s Chairman, Uche Secondus were at the INEC hqtrs today to complain about the role of security agents in the Feb 23rd Presidential and NASS polls.”
