Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has on Sunday night, presented the staff of office to the newly appointed Emir of Gaya, Ibrahim Abdulkadir.
The presentation is coming 48 hours after a State High Court ordered the governor, the State House of Assembly and the Attorney-General to stop implementing the splitting of the Kano Emirate.
On May 8, 2019, Governor Ganduje signed into law a bill on the creation of four additional emirates, a move that was widely viewed as an attempt to reduce Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s influence.
The appointment of the new emirs – Aminu Ado-Bayero, Bichi; Tafida Ila, Rano; Ibrahim Abdulkadir, Gaya and Ibrahim Abubakar ll, Karaye – means the Emir Sanusi now controls only 10 local government councils of the 44 in the state.
