Federal Government Declares 4th & 5th June Public Holiday For Eid-Al-Fitr Celebrations

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th June 2019, as public holidays to mark the Muslim Eid-Al-Fitr celebration.

This was made known by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Barrister Georgina Ekeoma Ehuriah, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed on Friday.

In the statement, she congratulated Muslim faithful on successful completion of the Ramadan Fast. She also enjoined all Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the peace, unity, prosperity and stability of the nation.

She went on to advice Nigerians to shun hate speeches and divisive tendencies, and to join hands towards working with the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in order to build a peaceful, strong and united Nigeria so as to achieve the next level of socio-economic development.

Reaffirming the determination of the Federal Government to protect the lives and property of Nigerians, she added that security agencies, under the Ministry, have been directed to ensure the provision of adequate security before, during and after the Eid-Al-Fitri celebration.

Eid al-Fitr, also called the “Festival of Breaking the Fast”, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
