“Nigerian Soldiers Get Ready” – Fani Kayode Reacts To Death Sentence On Former President

A former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the death sentence on former Pakistan military ruler, Pervez Musharraf after he was charged with treason and subverting the constitution.

A Pakistani court had on Tuesday, sentenced Pervez Musharraf to death in absentia for suspending constitution and imposing emergency rule in 2007.

Musharraf seized power in a 1999 coup and ruled Pakistan as President until 2008, when protest across the country forced him to resign, to avoid being impeachment.

He was indicted in 2014 on a total of five charges, including three counts of subverting, suspending and changing the country’s constitution, firing Pakistan’s chief justice, and imposing emergency rule.

On Tuesday, December 17, The military reacted angrily to his crimes, saying legal process “seems to have been ignored”.

“Pervez Musharraf has been found guilty of Article 6 for violation of the constitution of Pakistan,” Reuters quotes a government law officer Salman Nadeem.

It’s the first time in Pakistan’s history that an army chief has been tried and found guilty of treason. Under Pakistan’s constitution, high treason is a crime that carries the death penalty or life imprisonment.

Reacting to the development on his Twitter page, Fani-Kayode warned all soldiers in Nigeria who participated in a coup to get ready to experience the same fate and consequences soon. He wrote:

“Former Pakistan President & Army Chief Pervez Musharaf convicted of treason & awarded death sentence for suspending constitution and imposing emergency rule in 2007.

“Every soldier in Nigeria that ever participated in a coup ought to get ready. One day we SHALL revisit those issues!”
