30-Year-Old Female UK Returnee Confirmed As Third Case Of Coronavirus In Nigeria 3

The Lagos State Ministry of Health has confirmed a third case of coronavirus in Nigeria.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi broke the news to journalists at the government secretariat Tuesday morning.

“This is a new case independent of the index case of a 30 year-old Nigerian, female, who returned from the UK on 13th March,” the commissioner revealed.

Mr Abayomi said the patient, upon returning home, decided to go into a 14-day self-isolation, but subsequently developed symptoms of fever and cough on March 16h.

She voluntarily called the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) toll-free call line, to report her condition.

Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) were immediately dispatched to her home to collect samples, which upon testing came out positive for the Coronavirus.

According to Abayomi, the lady is now in isolation and receiving care at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.

“Contact tracing of all passengers and all those who may have come in contact with this latest case has commenced,” the Commissioner said.

The two previous cases recorded in Nigeria were males – the Italian businessman who imported the virus into the country and one of his close contacts.
