A 32-year-old Nigerian man recently evacuated from Dubai has died of coronavirus infection in Lagos State.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Federal Government had on May 6, 2020, evacuated 256 Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
During a briefing on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, Prof Akin Abayomi said one of the Nigerians evacuated from Dubai has died of COVID-19 complications.
According to him, the deceased was evacuated back to the country last week Wednesday with severe underlying health condition.
Abayomi said the unfortunate incident brings to 34 the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Lagos state.
”Unfortunately, another COVID-19 infection related death involving 32-year-old, male has been recorded.
“The deceased recently returned from Dubai with severe underlying health condition following evacuation of Nigerians in foreign countries by presidential task force on COVID-19.
“I urge Lagosians to remain committed to rules guiding COVID-19 infection prevention regardless of relaxation of lockdown,” he said.
KanyiDaily recalls that when the flight initially landed at the airport at 7.40 p.m. on Wednesday, the Federal Government had said that all returnees tested negative for COVID-19 before boarding the plane.
The deceased was probably among the 230 Nigerians who were initially left stranded in Dubai after Paying N242,000 each to the Nigerian Government for evacuation.
