Edo Guber Election: INEC Disqualifies Obaseki From Participating In PDP Governorship Primary
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disqualified Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, from participating in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election slated for Thursday, June 25, 2020.
KanyiDaily had reported that the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had on Monday restrained Obaseki from taking part in the primaries based on a suit filed by a PDP governorship aspirant, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama.
Ogbedie-Ihama had prayed the court to restrain the governor from participating in the exercise based on grounds that he did not purchase the form within the time stated in the party’s time-table.
INEC’s spokesman, Festus Okoye confirmed to Leadership Newspaper that the electoral commission has restrained Obaseki from tomorrow’s PDP primaries in line with its policy of respecting and obeying court orders.
The electoral body also warned political parties that it will respect every litigation emanating from primary elections while stressing that such litigation can harm the smooth conduct of the governorship election.
This is coming despite Justice J. O. Okeaya-Inneh of the Edo State High Court in Ekpoma, granting Governor Obaseki right to participate in the primaries.
