Edo Guber Election: Obaseki Wins PDP Primary, Emerges As Party’s Governorship Candidate

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has emerged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 19 governorship election in the state.

During the PDP primary on Thursday, June 25, 2020, two aspirants, Kenneth Imasuagbon and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, stepped down for the governor at the venue.

As a result of the development, Governor Obaseki emerged as the governorship candidate of the PDP unopposed with 1,952 votes.

A total of number of 2,200 delegates voted in the primary election of which 70 votes were voided with total votes cast put at 2,022 votes.

The governor’s Senior Special Adviser on New Media, Jack Obinyan, announced the news on his official Twitter handle. He wrote:

“In case you haven’t heard, @GovernorObaseki is returned unopposed, emerges as the flag bearer of the @OfficialPDPNig ahead of September 19, 2020 Gubernatorial Elections.”

Also, Obaseki wrote on Facebook, “I appreciate former contenders in the election; Engr Gideon Ikhine, Hon Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Mr Kenneth Imasuagbon, who stepped down and declared their support for me.”

KanyiDaily recalls that the PDP had, last week granted a waiver to Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, to contest on its platform.
