President Buhari Flags-Off Construction Of $2.8 Billion Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline [Video]

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday flagged off the construction of the 40-inch x 614km Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline project.

The Presidential flag off was performed virtually from the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At Ajaokuta, venue of the event in Kogi state, Governor Yahaya Bello, performed the physical flag-off ceremony on behalf of the President.

The construction of the $2.8 billion natural gas pipeline, which is the single biggest gas pipeline project in Nigeria’s history, was with simultaneous link to two locations: Rigachukun, Kaduna State and Ajaokuta Steel Complex, in Kogi State.

The AKK pipeline project, which will carry gas between the southern and northern parts of the country, will eventually extend to North Africa.

The project, expected to be completed within a 24-month is a section of the Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline (TNGP) with capacity to transport about 2.2billion cubic feet of gas per day.

The economic benefits of the AKK pipeline which would originate from Ajaokuta, in Kogi State and traverse Abuja, Niger, Kaduna and terminate at Kano, would boost domestic utilization of natural gas for Nigeria’s social economic development, when completed.
