Few weeks after the burial of George Floyd in United States, a Nigerian clergyman, Pastor Humble Okoro has performed another funeral service for the late Black American man in Mbaise, Imo State.
Leadership reports quoted Pastor Okoro saying he traced Floyd’s ancestral home to Umuoffor kindred in Obokwu Obibi Aboh, Mbaise. He also added “Obinna” to his name.
“I have traced the ancestral root of George Obinna Floyd to Umuoffor kindred in Obokwu obibi Aboh Mbaise Imo State and I feel so happy now that we have reburied him alongside with his ancestors.”
KanyiDaily had reported how George Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinned him to the ground by pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes as the black man repeatedly said, “I can’t breathe.”
Floyd’s death set off worldwide protests with a call for an end to police violence against black citizens and for justice to be duly served to the four former Minneapolis officers involved in killing the 46-year-old man.
The 46-year-old black American man was buried in Houston on June 6, 2020, amidst tears from family members, and others who lost loved ones to police violence.
