Ondo State deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) less than two months after joining the opposition party.
KanyiDaily recalls that Ajayi had resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and joined the PDP in order to contest the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.
However, his plans were shattered when he lost the PDP governorship primary election to Eyitayo Jegede, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State.
Confirming his resignation from the PDP in a statement issued on his Twitter page on Thursday, August 10, 2020, the deputy governor said:
“Today 10th August 2020, I Resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party to join Zenith Labour party to further my Aspirations.
“I appreciate the National Leadership and members of the party for their warm reception and acceptance in the short period i rejoined the party.”
KanyiDaily had reported last week that Ajayi is set to defect to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in his bid to fly the party’s flag in the October 10 Governorship election of the state.
Last week, Ajayi held meetings with leaders of the ZLP, as well as the National Leader of the party, who is also a former governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, to work out the details.
