Kano State police Command has rescued a 32-year-old man, Ahmad Aliyu, who was locked in a room by his father and stepmother for over seven years after accusing him of drug abuse, and allegedly left to spent days without food, water and had to eat his faeces and urine.
According to reports, a concerned neighbor had alerted the police in Farawa and human rights activists to Aliyu’s plight in a room in Farawa Babban Layi, Mariri quarters of Kumbotso local government area in Kano.
When the police and the human rights group arrived, the stepmother insisted that Ahmad was not at home, which forced the team to break down places in the house in search of him.
Aliyu was rescued by the police and human rights groups on Thursday evening. The victim was said to have been chained and caged after he was accused of drug abuse by his parents.
The victim who looked emaciated and dehydrated, was said to have spent days without food and water and reportedly drank his own urine whenever he was thirsty.
Abdullahi Kiyawa, the spokesman of Kano police command, confirming the incident, said the police are already investigating the matter and that the victim’s parents have also been arrested for questioning.

This is coming just a few days after a 10-year-old was rescued after his father and stepmother chained him in an animal store for over two years in Kebbi state.
