US President, Donald Trump And His Wife, Melania Tests Positive For Coronavirus

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, 74, and his wife Melania, 50, are self-isolating after both testing positive for the coronavirus.

The US president and the first lady tested positive to COVID-19 after one of the top presidential aides, Hope Hicks, contracted the virus.

Trump announced the bad news on Thursday via his Twitter handle, as he maintained that they would successfully go through it together.

He wrote: “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER.”

Melania Trump also tweeted: “As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19.

“We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”

The positive tests come as the virus continues to spread at an alarming rate in the US, even as President Trump has tried to downplay the threat of the disease.

Trump had continued to shake hands with visitors despite public health officials warning against it and also initially resisted being tested. Mr Trump also refused to wear a mask in public under almost all circumstances.

The US President has also continued to hold campaign rallies which have drawn thousands of supporters during the COVID-19 pandemic without wearing mask.

Two days before testing positive, during Tuesday evening’s presidential debate, Mr Trump belittled his Democratic challenger Joe Biden for frequently wearing masks and not having campaign rallies that matched his own in size.

Trump’s age put him at higher risk of serious complications from coronavirus, but the US President said he’s been taking anti-malaria drug ‘hydroxychloroquine’ to prevent COVID-19 infection even though it is not yet a proven treatment.

KanyiDaily recalls that President Trump had also come under heavy backlash on social media after referring coronavirus as a “Chinese Virus.”

He accused China of being the originator of the coronavirus, saying in confidence that he had seen evidence linking the virus to a virology lab in China’s ground-zero city of Wuhan.

President Trump had also stopped all US funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) over allegations of the organization siding with China to cover up the spread of coronavirus.

More than 200,000 people have died in the US after contracting coronavirus and more than seven million have been infected bybthe virus.
