BREAKING: IGP Adamu Bans FSARS, Others From Check Points, Routine Checks

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Abubakar Adamu has ordered the immediate ban of operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other squads under the Nigerian Police Force.

In a statement signed by PPRO, Frank Mba, on Sunday, October 4, 2020, the IGP demanded that all stop and search duties and patrols by FSARS, STS, IRT & other tactical police Squads be terminated with immediate effect.

IGP Adamu also warned against the invasion of privacy of citizens, unauthorized search of phones, and laptops. He ordered that no personnel should appear in mufti but uniforms during patrols or tactical assignments.

“All FSARS, STS, IRT & other Tactical @PoliceNG Squads operating at Federal, Zonal & Command levels are hereby BANNED from carrying out routine patrols & other conventional low-risk duties – stop & search duties, checkpoints, roadblocks, traffic checks, etc – WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

“The @PoliceNG authorities will step up monitoring of all activities of Tactical Squads (FSARS etc) and other police officers, nationwide, and ensure the prompt arrest, investigation and prosecution of all officers who violate these directives and other Force regulations.

“The @PoliceNG_CRU will also continue to be available to receive and investigate complaints against Police Officers, for appropriate action. Citizens are encouraged to make available full details of incidents to the Unit, using any of their contact details, outlined below: https://t.co/a35S1hKs7k”

This coming following the nationwide outcry by Nigerians over the alleged extrajudicial harassment and killing of innocent youths by SARS operatives.

KanyiDaily had reported how the SARS officials allegedly shot the young man, left him for dead, and escaped with his vehicle – a white Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle.

Meanwhile, A Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had also called on the Federal Government to immediately restructure the SARS, in order to perform its lawful duties of safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.
