Army Boss, Tukur Buratai Says Terrorism May Continue For Another 20 Years In Nigeria

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen Tukur Buratai said it may take another 20 years to end the menace of terrorism in Nigeria depending on the willingness level across parties.

Buratai stated this on his Facebook page, amid renewed calls for the sack of the Service Chiefs, following the killing of over 40 rice farmers by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

According to him, to end terrorism, citizens and international actors have a big role to play, adding that only cooperation can help Nigerians stop the lingering problem of insecurity in the northwest and other parts of the country.

“There is general misunderstanding of what insurgency and terrorism entail. There is likelihood of terrorism persisting in Nigeria for another 20 years. It only depends on the level of escalation and the appropriate responses by all stakeholders both civil and military authorities.

“Also by both local in international actors. Citizens’ responsibility is equally important and imperative. All must cooperate to contain the lingering insecurity. Let there be collective action and responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed was alleged to have said Nigeria is at the mercy of Boko Haram because the country has been denied weapons to fight the terrorists.
