CJN Tanko Muhammad Tests Positive For Coronavirus, Travels To Dubai For Treatment

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Muhammad, has reportedly flown to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, to receive treatment after testing positive for coronavirus.

The Nation reports that a member of the Supreme Court, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, disclosed this at the unveiling of the national headquarters of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

Saulawa said the CJN is currently receiving treatment in Dubai after testing positive to the dreaded coronavirus.

The CJN’s media aide, Festus Akande, also confirmed that Muhammad is currently in Dubai for treatment but he didn’t say what the illness was.

Justice Muhammad was absent at the swearing-in of 72 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday, December 15, 2020.

His duty was performed by the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, who administered oaths to the new SANs.

Muhammad is one of the high-profile Nigerians that have tested positive for the virus since Nigeria started witnessing resurgence of the virus. Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu tested positive for the virus at the end of last week.

Meanwhile, the NCDC in its update on Tuesday night confirmed 758 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 74,132.
