Kidnapped Chinese Expatriate Regains Freedom After Paying N100 Million Ransom In Ekiti

A Chinese expatriate who was kidnapped four days ago by unknown gunmen in Ekiti State, has regained freedom after the payment of N100 million ransom.

KanyiDaily had reported how a police officer was killed by gunmen who abducted a Chinese expatriate working for Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, last Friday.

It was gathered that the expatriate identified as Wang, is one of the contractors engaged by the Ekiti State government to construct the new Ado Ekiti-Iyin Ekiti road.

A source close to the road construction company said the abductee was released by his captors around 11 pm on Tuesday, after the payment of N100m ransom in Kwara state.

“N100 million was taken to a bush in Kwara state where the kidnappers collected and confirmed it before the man was released at a very difficult location along Igede-Ilawe road in Ekiti state.,” the source said.

When contacted on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ekiti state, ASP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the release but declined to comment on whether or not any ransom was paid to secure the release.

He claimed, however, that the release was made possible after a serious manhunt for the kidnappers was launched by a combined team of security operatives.

“Yes, he was released after a serious manhunt and pressure from the security operatives around Ilawe-Igede at about 11:30 pm on Tuesday,” he said.

He assured residents that the command would continue to do everything possible to wade off all criminal elements from the state and ensure maximum security of lives and property. (NAN)

KanyiDaily had also reported how a Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Egbe Eko Edum, was axed to death by unknown assailants while visiting his family in Calabar, Cross River State.
