Nigerian Journalist, Kiki Mordi has been accused of sleeping with BBC Staff to get a role in the “Sex for Grade” undercover documentary.
KanyiDaily recalls that Kiki Mordi came to limelight following her ‘Sex for Grades’ documentary released last year 2019, when she uncovered sexual harassment in West African universities particularly Ghana and Nigeria.
Kiki Mordi has won several awards for the documentary published by BBC Africa Eye in October 2019, including bagging her first International Emmy Awards nomination in the News and Current Affairs category.
However, a few days ago, the 29-year-old journalist was accused of “wrongly” passing off the “Sex for Grades” documentary as hers.
A Nigerian investigative journalist, Ruona Meyer who uncovered the abuse of Codeine in Nigeria, accused Kiki Mordi of sidelining her colleagues and taking all the credits for “Sex for Grade” documentary.
Meyer alleged that the “Sex for Grade” documentary was pitched and sourced for by another female journalist, Oge Obi. But Kiki has refused to acknowledge and share whatever prize money accrued to the award with “O.O” whose intellectual property she “stole”.
Taking to her Twitter page, another prolific Journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, reacted to the development saying Kiki Mordi was not the brain behind the investigation and documentary.
The brain behind the ‘Sex for grade” documentary, Oge Obi, also corroborated with Kemi’s claims that Kiki Mordi might have slept with BBC staff to get the role.
Admitting that she had taken the loss and moved on with her life, Oge tweeted:
“I GIVE UP, YOU WIN!! I was a young and naive baby-journalist – 24 at the time. I was eager to please, not knowledgeable enough about the politics of these things and trusted that C wouldn’t use my exceptional skills and dumb me for someone he felt had a more sensational appeal”
“someone who played no extraordinary role to the whole thing. Take out the role I played and it would have fallen flat with no one giving it more than a two-seconds glance. God only knows what you did to make him give you such opportunity because I wouldn’t put a sexual…”
“relationship out of it, seeing as the cozied-up position I caught you two in at Alliance Francais that day was very suspect. Anyway, it’s your time, so enjoy. Honestly, my anger is with him not you. He used me, not YOU. If I were in your shoes, I would be an opportunist too.”
“So, here’s me chopping my L and moving on, never to speak of it again. If this is how God wants it then so be it. I rid myself of every hurt, every anger, every bitterness, every pain and opening my arms to receive better and more fulfilling opportunities where I’ll be valued.”
“Anyway, seeing as journalism is not really for me, what’s the easiest skill I can learn in tech and how long will it take for me to master it? Or is it rather late for me to switch to tech, seeing as I am not a spring chicken? … If you can hook me up to where I can learn it or”
KanyiDaily also recalls that Kiki Mordi had revealed that she was getting death threats following her investigations into the sexual harassment of female students.
