Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Wednesday said that it arraigned seven suspects connected to the molestation of an 11-year-old pupil of Deeper Life High School, Don Davis Archibong.
KanyiDaily had reported how an Don Davis was allegedly dehumanized by his principal, teachers and colleagues for bed wetting at Deeper Life High School in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
It was gathered that the JSS 1 student was punished and starved for bed wetting, before the school authorities transferred him to the seniors’ hostel where he was raped and molested by SS2 students.
Following the outrage among Nigerians, the management of Deeper Life announced that the school principal, Ndidi Solomon, had been suspended and investigation is ongoing into the matter.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 6, 2020, the state police spokesperson, Odiko Macdon, said that seven suspects were charged to court following a petition from one Mrs Deborah Archibong to the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme.
The police said the suspects including the suspended school principal Ndidi Solomon, 45, and four others, were arraigned before a magistrates’ court, while two students were arraigned at a juvenile court.
“Consequent upon a petition from one Mrs Deborah Okezie Archibong to the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, Andrew Amiengheme, and upon the commissioner’s directive for a discreet investigation into the issues contained therein, one Mrs Ndidi Solomon, aged 45, and four other staff (members), including two students, whose actions or inactions negated extant laws have been today (Wednesday) charged to court.
“While Mrs Ndidi Solomon and four others were charged to the magistrates’ court, the two students were charged to the Juvenile Court,” the statement reads.
The CP called on school authorities to take the welfare and discipline of their students seriously, noting that it was only expedient for matters of this nature to be quickly investigated and the courts allowed to decide on the merits.
However, it was gathered that the arraignment of the 5 adults suspects before the Uyo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday January 6, was stalled due to the absence of the magistrate.
Meanwhile, a 71-year-old medical doctor has been arrested for sneaking into a hospital to ‘illegally’ collect blood sample of Don Davis under the pretense that he came to help a colleague.
