Senator Adelere Oriolowo Escapes ‘Assassination Attempt’ During APC Meeting In Osun

The senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Adelere Oriolowo, has reportedly escaped an ‘assassination attempt’ during a meeting of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the district.

It was learnt that Senator Oriolowo was attacked by gunmen during a meeting attended by members of the APC in Osun West including political office holders on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

The lawmaker was reportedly rushed out of the meeting that held at his constituency in Ikire, Osun State, by security personnel present during the attack.

The cause of the attack, which the senator described as an ‘assassination attempt’ could not be ascertained as of the time of this report.

The senator, in a Facebook post, confirmed the attack saying, “Just escaped an Assassination attempt on my life and that of my entourage. To God be the glory, we are safe and alive. God is my helper, my shelter and my fortress, I fear no evil. – AAO”

When contacted, Mr Oriolowo’s Legislative Aide, Adams Adedimeji, confirmed the attack, saying his principal was the target of the ‘assassins.’

Oriolowo’ Press Secretary aides, Niyi Isamotu said the attack was an assassination attempt on the Senator but luckily escaped unscathed from the scene.

He said some hoodlums just began to act unnecessarily funny leading to an uproar before they began to attempt to attack the Senator.

“It was an attempt on his life. We were at an Osun West Senatorial meeting at Ikire and suddenly there was an uprising shortly after the senator arrived at the meeting.

“It took the expertise of the security attached to the senator to whisk him away from the scene and had to leave some of his aides behind.

“We only thank God that no one among the entourage was injured in the scene. But they vandalised the two vehicles in the convoy. However, the senator is well and unharmed,” he said.

The state police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, did not respond to calls and text messages when contacted about the incident.

KanyiDaily had reported how Aso Rock Assistant Director, Laetitia Naankang Dagan, was assassinated inside her apartment in Abuja.
