Sunday Igboho Begs Ooni Of Ife For Forgiveness After Insulting Him Over Fulani Herdsmen

A Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has asked for forgiveness from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, over the unsavory comments he ‘unintentionally’ made against him.

KanyiDaily recalls that Igboho had earlier stated that the Ooni of Ife disappointed the Yoruba people when he visited the President Muhammadu Buhari and refused to discuss with him issues bothering on killer Fulani Herdsmen ravaging the south west.

The activist, who also accused the monarch of collecting bribes from the President, expressed disappointment that the Yoruba leaders were not shown enough support for the struggle to liberate the Yoruba from their ”Fulani oppressors”.

He said the Ooni and others are turning a blind eye to situation because they were only interested in their own gains even though they claim to represent the Yoruba interest.

But during an interview with Isokan Omo Oodua TV, Ignoho denied insulting the monarch, saying “I did not insult the Ooni.”

He, however, begged for forgiveness if what he said appeared as an insult to the monarch whom he described as his father, adding that he was caught in the moment.

“They said I insulted the Ooni of Ife. I and the monarch, as well as the Olugbon, have spoken on the phone,”

“The Yoruba tradition doesn’t permit the insult of elders. But because I was pained by the issue, my tongue was caught up in the moment. I spoke according to how pained I was. It wasn’t the Ooni alone I directed my words at, I also did to other elders.

“It’s a case of father and child. I and the monarch have spoken as well as the Olugbon. I did not insult the Ooni. And if it appears as if I did, he should forgive me.” he added.

This is coming in the wake of ethnic tensions, especially across the South-West states which many have attributed to criminal Fulani herdsmen.

KanyiDaily recalls that Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredelu had recently issued a seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herders, to quit the state forest reserve over the rising cases of insecurity in the state.

Sunday Igboho had also made good on his threat to herdsmen after he issued an ultimatum to Fulanis to leave Oyo state or face severe consequences.
