Pastor Bulus Yakuru of the Church of the Brethren (EYN) has regained freedom on the day he was to be executed by Boko Haram terrorist group.
According to Human Angle, the Abubakar Shekau-led faction of Boko Haram freed the pastor on Wednesday evening, March 3, 2021 – just as the deadline for their ransom demands was set to run out.
It was gathered that the cleric is currently with the Department of State Services (DSS), which negotiated his release along with the Kalthum Foundation for Peace.
KanyiDaily recalls that Pastor Yakuru was abducted on Christmas evening last year when Boko Haram attacked Pemi village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno.
In a short video released on February 24, Pastor Yakura called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Babagan Zulum of Borno, to help to secure his release.
The cleric said the terrorist gave him a one-week ultimatum and threatened to kill him on the 3rd March, if their ransom demands are not met.
The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, had begged Boko Haram not to kill Pastor Yakuru noting that Christians are not the insurgents’ enemies.
