Nigerian singer, Seyi Shay has come under heavy fire on the social media over her harsh verdict on a young aspiring artiste at this year’s audition of the television reality show, Nigerian Idol.
Seyi Shay was one of the judges on the sixth season of the reality television show on Sunday, alongside DJ Sose and Obi Asika.
A yet-to-be-identified teenager had came out on Sunday to make his presentation on the show, and Seyi Shay started laughing while the contestant was presenting.
While giving her verdict after his rendition, Sheyi Shay described his “performance as terrible”. She told the teenager that he should not have auditioned for the show in the first place, adding that he “cannot make money being a singer.”
“I am laughing because I can’t just believe what I just heard. Who told you to come for the show’s audition. You should go back and tell them they’re not your friends. That was not a good one. You have a sweet, token voice but your performance is terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer.
“I love you, you’re so sweet but you’re not a singer. For songwriting, hit me up, we’ll talk about it but that singing thing won’t work out. Sorry darling,” she said.
Seyi Shay’s verdict did not go down well with most Nigerians who accused her of bullying and being aggressive towards the teenager contestant who was only trying to make a career in music in the country.
Below are some of the reactions on Twitter over Seyi Shay’s comments.
