Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha Akide has slammed those criticizing Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for gifting Burna Boy and other artistes N10 million each.
KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Wike had promised to give N10 million to Burna Boy and others who performed at a homecoming party in Port Harcourt.
It was also gathered that the governor gifted the Grammy-winning artiste a piece of land and money to build for himself a home at Old GRA, Port Harcourt.
The pledge is coming at a time Governor Wike is yet to resolve a lingering dispute over the non-payment of pensions and gratuity to thousands of retired Civil Servants since the inception of his administration in 2015.
The governor’s donation also comes a week after public school teachers protested over five years non-payment of salaries by the Rivers government.
The protesting teachers told journalists that they have lost about ten of their colleagues due to the hardship experienced within the period.
Many Nigerians on social media had attacked Governor Wike for what they tagged reckless spending, despite owing River workers salaries.
Reacting in a video shared on her Twitter page, Tacha slammed those condemning Governor Wike’s gifts to Burna Boy, noting that the singer deserves everything the governor gave to him during his homecoming.
She argued that Burna Boy deserves to have a town in the state named after him as well as public holidays dedicated to celebrating his heroics at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
“I’m not exactly a fan of Wike because he hasn’t done much for the people of the state. But you’re mad, you are legit mad to think what Governor Wike did for Burna Boy yesterday was unnecessary or shouldn’t be a priority.
“You must be crazy to think that way. You all don’t know my state. Entertainment in my state is dead. Nightlife, carnivals and all that no longer exist literally,” she said.
“So, for him to have asked Burna Boy to come down to the state and consequently gave him land and N10 million… those thinking it’s too much must be loosing it. Burna Boy should have a whole town named after him.
“He won a whole Grammy, not an inter-state or local award. He should even have public holidays dedicated to him. So, those criticising Wike for honouring him must be mad because he has won something… let me not shade your favourites. Let’s just move.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Wike also donated a sum of N500 million for the rebuilding of the Central Market in Sokoto State, which was recently razed by fire.
