The bandits who abducted the Niger State Commissioner for Information, Muhammed Sanni Idris, have made a demand of N500 million ransom for his release.
KanyiDaily had reported how Mohammed was abducted at his residence in the early hours of Monday, August 9, by heavily armed men suspected to be bandits.
The gunmen numbering about 20, stormed Mohammed’s residence under a heavy downpour and shot sporadically into the air before abducting the commissioner in front of his second wife.
It was gathered that a security meeting presided by Deputy state Governor, Ahmed Ketso, has been going on since his abduction on Monday morning.
A source who spoke with Daily Trust confirmed that the kidnappers have since established contact with the family to make their demand known.
“The kidnappers are demanding for N500m ransom while marathon security meetings presided over by Deputy Governor have just ended at the government house but no details of the meeting,” the source said.
However, there’s yet to be any official confirmation on the demand of the bandits.
This comes just a few days after gunmen attacked the Nasarawa State Ministry of Finance and stole N100 million meant for payment of workers in the state.
