A man identified as Troy Ketchmore, who was wrongfully convicted for murdering his friend, has regained freedom after 26 years in prison in the United States.
According to reports, Ketchmore was sentenced to 43 years in prison after being charged with the first-degree murder of his friend in 1995.
Despite forensic evidence proving otherwise, the prosecutors had argued in court that he accidentally shot his friend while returning gunfire during a shoot-out involving different armed people.
The man was convicted under Virginia’s no-parole law, which meant that he would have had to serve at least 85 % of his 43-year sentence before being eligible for parole.
After spending over two decades in conviction, his case was reopened and forensic evidence showed that the fatal shot that struck his friend came from a 40 caliber gun that was not his weapon.
A video circulating the social media shows the emotional moment Troy Ketchmore reunited with his family amid tears and joy after he was released on parole due to the Fishback Law in Virginia.
