Ghanaian Member of Parliament, Patrick Boamah has urged the Black Stars to withdraw from their upcoming encounter with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
KanyiDaily recalls that Nigeria was paired with Ghana for a March showdown over two legs to decide who qualifies for the global showpiece in Qatar later this year.
Speaking on the floor of parliament in a discussion of the Black Stars’ poor performances at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Boamah urged the Ghanaian team to withdraw from the World Cup playoff against Nigeria.
He said rather than waste their time playing the Nigerian team who are far more better than their Ghanaian counterpart, the Black Stars should focus on building the team for long-term success.
Boamah said, “If need be we should dissolve our national team and prepare a team over the next five years. We should not waste our time playing Nigeria in the next World Cup qualifier.
“Look at the team Nigeria has, even though they are out of the tournament I don’t think with this current set up we can stand the Nigerians.”
At 2021 Afcon, Ghana produced their worst campaign in the championship’s history by finishing the group stage without winning a single game, while Nigeria crashed out of the Round 16 after they lost 1-0 to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.
