21-year-old lady, Glory Okolie, who was accused of spying for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has ragained her freedom after over nine months in police custody.
The lady, who was illegally detained for 150 days by the Nigerian police before being arraigned in court, regained her freedom on Wednesday, March 23,2002, after perfecting her bail condition.
KanyiDaily had reported how the police were accused of detaining Okolie ‘illegally’ for days and turning her into a maid in police custody after she was arrested by officers of the Intelligence Response Team in Owerri, Imo State.
Reacting to the allegation, the police alleged that Miss Okolie was arrested by the IRT officers for spying for her boyfriend, Benjamin Uzoma Emojiri a.k.a “Onye Army”, who is an IPOB member.
The police said the suspect also received cash, drugs and weapons on behalf of IPOB/ESN and delivered same to their commanders in their camps.
Adeniran said she actively aided and abetted multiple acts of murder, arson and malicious damage to both private and public property by the ESN.
On November 23, 2021, reported that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted bail to Gloria Okolie in the sum of N10million with two sureties.
Ruling on the bail application, the presiding judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo admitted her to bail with sureties one of whom must be at least a level-14 Civil Servant while the other must own landed property and must have lived at the present address for at least 2 years.
The 21-year-old lady was later transferred to Abuja, despite efforts by her family members to secure her release.
While reacting to the bail conditions her lawyers, Ihensekhien Samuel commended the judge for admitting her to bail though the terms were stringent but they would apply for variation in due course.
Gloria Okolie and her co-defendant had remained in Suleja Correctional Centre custody pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.
KanyiDaily had also reported how the police ‘wrongly’ arrested a 40-year-old oil worker, Casmir Ibegbulem, and accused him of being one of the unknown gunmen attacking security formations in Imo state.
