Drugs Trafficking: DCP Abba Kyari May Be Harmed In Kuje Prison – Senator Shehu Sani

A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani has raised concerns over the safety of the suspended commander of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari.

Shehu Sani Express Concern Over Abba Kyari

KanyiDaily recalls that Kyari is facing trial at a Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged drug trafficking after he was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

On Monday, March 28, the judge, Justice Emeka Nwite refused to grant the embattled police office bail and ordered him to be moved to Kuje correctional facility.

Reacting on his Twitter page, Senator Shehu Sani raised concern over Kyari’s safety, saying the suspended police officer may be harmed in Kuje prison.

The former lawmaker also pointed out that the prison wardens are usually concerned about ensuring the safety of a police officer when sent to prison.

Sani said, “When a policeman is ordered to be remanded in prison, the first concern of the prison wardens is how to keep him safe from the inmates he once arrested and led to their incarceration; in that case, he is kept in a separate cell to save him from being beaten or anyway harmed.”

KanyiDaily recalls that the NDLEA had arraigned Kyari and six others defendants before the Federal High Court in Abuja on an eight-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in cocaine, and other related offences.

Four of the six other defendants are members of the police intelligence response team — Sunday J. Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba and John Nuhu.

The two others are alleged drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.

When the eight-count charges were read to them on Monday, two of the defendants, Umeibe and Ezenwanne pleaded guilty to the offences, but Kyari and the officers denied the offences.

While the judge ordered Kyari and the four other police officers to be remanded in Kuje prison, he othered Messrs Emeka and Ezenwanne who have pleaded guilty to be reminded at the Suleja correctional centre, Niger State.
