Why Sunday Igboho Can’t Leave Benin Republic Despite His Release – Lawyer

Yomi Aliyyu (SAN), the counsel to embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, Popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has revealed why his client cannot leave the Benin Republic despite his release from detention.

Sunday Igboho Can’t Leave Benin Republic

KanyiDaily had reported that Sunday Igboho was detained in Benin Republic after being arrested in July 2021 at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou while on his way to Germany.

On Monday, March 7, 2022, the Yoruba freedom fighter was released by the Government of Republic of Benin after spending over 231 days in detention.

In a message sent to newsmen on Monday, Igboho’s lawyer, Aliyyu said the 49-year-old activist was released to his medical doctors with the agreement that he would not leave Cotonou for any reason.

He said, “I am to inform you that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho Oosa, has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.

“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities to wit; Prof Wole Soyinka and Prof (Banji) Akintoye, for this turnaround in our client’s matter.”

KanyiDaily recalls that Sunday Igboho’s lawyer, Yomi Alliyu had previously revealed that the activist might not return to Nigeria till after the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.
