Gunmen have killed a district head, Abdulkadir Sufiyanu during Ishai prayers inside a Mosque at Maisamari town in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State.
It was gathered that the district head when the gunmen invaded the mosque during the prayers around 7:30pm on Monday and started shooting sporadically.
A source said the residents used their den guns to confront the gunmen, a situation that made them flee on their motorbikes through a nearby mountain.
When contacted on Wednesday, Taraba police spokesperson, Usman Abdullahi confirmed that only the district head was killed during the incident, adding that the gunmen came specifically to attack the deceased.
Abdullahi, who also revealed that nobody was abducted during the attack, said police officers are currently on the trail of those who launched the attack.
“The Muslim faithful gathered in the mosque for prayer on Monday evening, around 7:30pm, before the unfortunate incident took place.
“Unknown gunmen came, pretended to come from prayer in the mosque and opened fire, killing the district head,” he said.
