Nigerian music producer, Samklef has threatened to sue a singer turned politician, Banky W, over unpaid royalties for the debut album “Superstar” of his former protégé, Wizkid.
Wizkid signed a record deal with Banky’s with Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) in 2009, releasing ‘Superstar’ and ‘Ayo’, his first and second studio albums respectively.
The superstar singer later exited Banky’s label and release his third album after inking an international deal with RCA Records in 2017.
During a recent interview, Banky W had revealed that Wizkid left EME without fulfilling the terms of his contract as he had only released two of the five solo albums stipulated in his contract.
Amid the allegation, Samklef has taken to his Twitter page to reveal that he has yet to receive his own share of royalties from Wizkid’s 2011 project. He also said his lawyers would reach out to Banky W in due course.
He wrote, “Claiming all my 11 years royalties for Wizkid ‘Superstar’ album in a bit. My Lawyers will reach out. It’s 50/50. Anybody wey don collect my money better reach out o! Samkef fine were o! Make dem tag Banky o! My money go don plenty o! Before him go use am campaign for election,” he wrote on Twitter.”
KanyiDaily recalls that in 2020, Wizkid thanked Banky W for changing his life and showed his support for EME records, even though he has since floated his record label, Starboy Entertainment.
