Former Speaker, Patricia Etteh Released On Bail After Three Days In EFCC Custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released a former speaker of the house of representatives, Patricia Etteh, who was arrested over an allegation of fraud.

EFCC Releases Patricia Etteh

Etteh, who was Speaker between June 6, 2007, and October 30, 2007, was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday by EFCC operatives for allegedly receiving a suspicious payment of N130 million.

The money was allegedly paid to Etteh by a contractor of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) who was awarded a solar-powered electrification project in Akwa Ibom state.

In a statement on Saturday, EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren said Etteh was released on Friday after fulfilling her bail conditions, noting that the former speaker is expected to report to its office “periodically to assist further investigations”.

“Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on suspicious and shady financial involvement with Phil Jin Projects Limited, has been released by the Commission.

“She was released on Friday, May 20, 2022 upon fulfilling bail conditions offered her by investigators working on her matter. She is to report periodically to assist further investigations,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, Ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan’s godson, George Turnah has been sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
