Goodluck Jonathan Rejects APC Presidential Form Bought For Him By Northern Group

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the presidential nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) purchased for him by the northern coalition to contest in the 2023 general election.

Goodluck Jonathan Rejects APC Presidential Form

KanyiDaily recalls that a Northern coalition had bought the N100 million nomination and expression of interest forms of the APC for Jonathan, who governed Nigeria for five years on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reacting in a statement issued on Monday night by his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, the former president said he didn’t authorize the purchase of the form.

Jonathan, who appreciated the overwhelming requests by Nigerians to join the 2023 presidential race, said he has not committed himself to this request.

The former president noted that buying a presidential form in his name without his consent, is considered an insult to his person, admonishing those behind the charade to desist from further defacing his name.

The statement reads, “It has come to our notice that a group has purportedly purchased Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the name of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorise it. We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door.

“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians for Dr. Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 presidential election, we wish to state that he has not, in anyway, committed himself to this request.

“Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name of Dr. Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person. The general public is therefore advised to disregard it.”

KanyiDaily had also reported how protesters including women and youths stormed the Abuja office of  Goodluck Jonathan to beg him to return to office.
