As the race to 2023 elections intensifies, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is gearing up for the party primaries to select those who will become the flag bearers ahead of the 2023 general elections.
As mixed reactions by the contestants trail the screening of the governorship aspirants, Senator Lee Maeba has urged his fellow contenders to abide by the outcome of the exercise.
Sen. Maeba, who emerged successful after the screening, commended the Committee members for their unbiased work and called on other party aspirants to submit themselves to the legitimate process and abide by the outcome of the exercise. His words below:
“The process is open and transparent. The Committee has sound and unbiased minds as members. So, I appeal to all participants to cooperate with them and respect the organs and leadership of the Party”.
While stating why he wants to become the next Governor of Rivers State, Senator Lee Maeba said, the job needs him now, to consolidate on the massive gains of the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration in the State, noting that other aspirants want the job, while the job wants him.
The former Senator who is also an Engineer disclosed that he wants to focus on health and agricultural reforms with the state government playing a major role in the farming and manufacturing sector. He said:
I want to be involved in massive agriculture. We must have farms in partnership with the private sector that produce and manufacture things. For example; Rivers Farm Limited that produces all the food we want; Rivers Fisheries Limited that produces all the fish we want because we are surrounded by aquatic blessings and treasure that we need to explore.
A Rivers man does not need to eat fish from Norway because how many rivers do they have in Norway that we don’t have here?
So we want to go into massive industrialization. Create an industrial estate in Omaku, Bori and Eleme by the petrochemical using petrochemical feedstock to produce polyvinyl chlorides. Reform the Trans Amadi industial layout and we will start a four industrial estate from day one so that we can create more jobs in the state.
We will give loans to people who want to establish industries in the industry estate and we have a 100 Billion Naira revolving fund to create sub loans to people who want to introduce industries.
For the health sector, Maeba intends to have the Rivers State Health Insurance scheme fully running and also provide free medicals to children between one and ten years.
Senator Lee Maeba revealed that he has no political enemies, thug or camps, and that he regards every member of the party, who has expressed his or her intention to contest in the governorship election, as brother, appealing to them to conduct the activities of the party as a family affair.
He further stressed that everyone who is a member of the party has to share the dividends of party progress and that is what he represents.
“So, delegates have no other choice than me. Talking about this State, I have been involved in so many transitions and I can recall that when I was 15 years old, I was the youth leader of the NPN, and since then I have continued to be a politician that belongs to the masses.
“Governor Wike administration started in 2015 and he has done very well, he has improved the infrastructure of the State, and he has done very well. My administration is coming for continuity, to continue those good works Governor Wike has started in Rivers State, and to Industrialize the State as the industrial base of the Niger delta and Nigeria.
“Tell the delegates that they have no other place to cast their votes other than for me. I am the man who belongs to all of them, others need the job, while the job needs me”.
