Nigerian singers, Omah Lay and Rema have addressed fans who are unsatisfied with their performances at the just-concluded Afronation concert in Portugal.
A female fan had shared a video where she called out both singers over their performances at the concert on Friday, arguing that they fail to live up to expectations as vocalists.
She said, “My honest opinion about Afronation day one… beautiful place, amazing energy but my biggest criticism of this festival so far is my beautiful West African artistes that I saw yesterday, especially Omah Lay and partly Rema.”
“Why are you not singing? We came to see you live, you’re vocalists.. and your main instrument is your voice..we came all the way to Portugal to watch… honestly… I’m not satisfied.”
In a post shared on his Twitter page, the singer pointed accusing fingers at the show’s organizers, saying that the poor sound setup was responsible for the way things turn out at the event.
“Whoever came for Afronation day 1 knew the sound was bad. 2 second delay feedback from the mic, no in-ear monitors for artists to keep track of the audio the audience was receiving,” he wrote in a now-deleted post.
“Let’s not even talk about provisions they make for artists to come with ‘bands’ still I made use of live sessions at first and I cut it off & improvised cause I wasn’t satisfied with the sound, even complained on stage.
“One thing leads to another, know this! But just can’t watch people take shots @ me and my brother, Omah Lay. Lastly, we’ll all learn, grow & do better, as artists & organizers, peace.”
On his part, he admitted his performance wasn’t the best and apologized to disappointed fans while blaming the hitch on the show’s sound system.
Omay Lay also offered the attendee VIP access to his ongoing Boy Alone World Tour to make up for the bad performance.
tweeted, “Apologies to you and all the fans that feel this way. I woulda loved to give you better but I had to do this entire show without hearing myself cuz I wasn’t provided with sound on my IEM.”
“I’ve been on the road almost every other night since March and it’s been fire. But challenges pop up and we choose to either do the best we can or not perform at all.
“Apologies once again. I’m still on tour and if you happen to be in any of the cities I’m coming to, I’d like to make it up to you with VIP access. Hmu! (Hit me up).”
