Tinubu And Shettima Meets NANS Leaders, Vows To Intervene In Lingering ASUU Strike

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, met with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ososgbo, Osun State.

Tinubu Meets NANS Leaders, To Intervene In ASUU Strike

In a video shared on Twitter by an APC member, Segun Dada, on Thursday, Tinubu pledged to intervene in the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The former Lagos state governor said he was planning to use a back channel to intervene in the industrial action by the university lecturers following a recent comment by President Muhammadu Buhari on the strike.

“We were trying to find—even if it is back door, a way of reaching them. I am assuring you, we are not going to use back door because our leader too.

“Buhari has shown his lamentation in the last 48hours and as a result of that, he has left the door open for our intervention,” Tinubu said.

KanyiDaily recalls that ASUU had embarked on a warning strike since February 14, over the failure of the federal government to meet its demands.

Amid the strike, the government and the union have held a series of meetings, but no agreement has been reached by both sides on ending the strike.

Last Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari declared that enough is enough, saying it’s time for the lecturers to call off the ASUU strike in the interest of their students and the country.

Meanwhile, the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu has called on the Federal Government to take all necessary measures to end the prolonged ASUU strike.
