I’m Very Proud Of The Entire Team – Nana Akufo-Addo Hails Black Stars Of Ghana Despite 3-2 Defeat To Portugal

President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana has praised the country’s Black Stars for what he described as a “gutsy performance” in their opening match against Portugal at the ongoing FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Nana Akufo Addo Hails Black Stars Of Ghana’s Outing Against Portugal

This is despite the 3-2 defeat suffered by the Black Stars in the hands of the star-studded Portuguese team at Stadium 974 on Thursday.

Ghana were massive underdogs going into the tie, but they were looking to follow the path of Saudi Arabia and Japan who upset big boys Argentina and Germany.

The Black Stars proved to be a difficult nut to crack for Portugal as the Selecao huffed and puffed but Ghana held their own in the first half. However, the game turned on its head in the second half.

Cristiano Ronaldo put Portugal in front in the 65th minute from the spot, becoming the first player to score in five different World Cups.

But Portugal’s lead did not last, as Andre Ayew drew Ghana level eight minutes later.

Unfortunately, Ghana lost concentration in the final quarter, and Portugal took advantage, with Joao Felix and Rafael Leao scoring in the 78th and 80th minutes.

Osman Bukari pulled one back for Ghana in the 89th minute, but Portugal held on to see out the 3-2 result.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Addo said he is very proud of the entire team, adding that they live to fight another day.

According to him, they have shown they have what it takes to mix up against any team in the tournament.

He added that he is looking forward to the next game against South Korea.

His tweet, “Gutsy performance by the @GhanaBlackstars in today’s match against Portugal. Very proud of the entire team.

“They live to fight another day, & have shown they have what it takes to mix it up against any team in the tournament.

“Looking forward to the next game against South Korea.”
