Many passengers has been injured during an attack by gunmen on a bus travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.
It was gathered that the armed men suspected to be kidnappers were dressed in military uniforms during the attack on Tuesday.
According to Punch, the gunmen stormed the road from the bush before the Sagamu Interchange en route Lagos and started shooting at motorists in the 18-passenger inter-state bus.
One of the victims said they laid flat inside the bus to avoid being hit by bullets, but many passengers were injured in the attack.
“We (passengers) were only lucky to escape the gunmen but many of us have been injured by the bullets and our bus has been badly damaged too,” the victim said.
A video circulating on social y shows a man who survived bullet wounds recounting his experience saying, “I thought I was dead, having been shot by them,
“They faced our vehicle shooting at us, we all lay down except the driver who was the target. They thought we were all dead and retreated into the bush.
“The joint patrol team of police officers from Ogun and Oyo states arrived at the scene later.” he said.
Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the gunmen were kidnappers who wanted to engage in their activities along the highway.
Oyeyemi said the police officers who were present at the highway engaged the gunmen in a gun duel.
“Some of the gunmen left the scene with bullet wounds. At the moment, our men are combing the bush to get the dead bodies of some of the gunmen,” he said.
