Nigerian singer, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has broken his silence after he was released by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
KanyiDaily recalls that the ICPC had arrested D’banj on Tuesday, December 6, over allegations of diversion of funds for the N-Power Programme.
The musician was detained by the ICPC for allegedly collaborating with some government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the N-Power scheme in order to divert funds.
D’banj had denied the allegations, saying he does not engage in business dealings “unless they are legitimate, properly documented and obtainable in law.”
After three days of questioning, the singer was released on self-recognition by the ICPC on Friday, although the anti-graft agency maintained that it was still investigating the matter.
Taking to his Instagram page a few hours after he was released, D’banj said he has no business with fraud while stressing that all he loves to do is ‘chopping’ life.
He said, “Global thank you to the world. I was invited on an ongoing investigation in the ICPC. I have assisted the commission with all I know and I am confident in their capacity to unravel the truth. I have no business with fraud, all I do is chop life. I was released on self-recognition because nothing was seen or found on me. God bless you all my people.”
D’banj’s release comes after his lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi called on the ICPC to free the singer who had “satisfactorily cooperated with the commission’s investigation” and lamented his continued detention.
