BREAKING: Massive Protest Breaks Out In Benin City Over Hike In Fuel Price, Hardship

A massive protest is currently ongoing in Benin City, Edo State over the hardship in the country.

Massive Protest In Benin City

This was disclosed in a short tweet by a media practitioner, Osazee Iyamu on his handle on Monday morning.

The protest, according to Iyamu is a result of the high cost of fuel.

He did not, however, reveal the area the protest is taking place in the city.

But various accounts on Twitter reveal the protests are taking place in Sapele road and other areas.

He wrote, “Massive protests going on in Benin City. People can’t take the hardship anymore.”

In an earlier tweet, he wrote, “They are buying fuel for N650/litre in Benin City. This is one of the craziest times I have seen happen in this country.”

Another Twitter user also confirmed the protest and shared a video from the protest.

In the 20-second video, the youths could be seen turning back a vehicle driven by men said to be soldiers.

He wrote, “There is a massive protest over spikes of up to N600 per litre for fuel in Benin city. Things shouldn’t get to this point before government acts. The hike in pump prices has crippled the economy and made life worse for every Nigerian. Effective distribution and monitoring needed!”

Meanwhile, other Twitter users have also been reacting to the news of the ongoing protest in the state.

One user wrote, “I can bet with my left arm that APC wouldn’t win one seat in Edo state. Massive protests going on in Benin rn. Fuel is 1k in Benin, how then do you convince the people to vote ur party? I love my people we don’t follow the bandwagon. APC would finally be annihilated in Edo next month”

“I dey fear make upper boys no put hand for this Benin protest so🌝🤔.”

In a related development, an honorary member of the West Africa Youth Council, Esteem Behemoth, had on Sunday confirmed that they would be a protest in Benin City on Monday.

“There will be a MASSIVE protest in Benin City tomorrow. The state of the nation is the bone of contention,” he wrote.

Esteem further said the protest is also in reaction to the stress and troubles being experienced by citizens in getting the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of next month’s general election.

It was also confirmed by another Twitter user.

“Breaking: there would be a massive protest over the high cost of fuel and other crude oil products in Benin city pls be safe out there today.”

Recall that protesters, mainly youths, on Thursday last week, blocked the Lagos-Benin Expressway at Oluku Junction in response to the rise in fuel prices and the scarcity of the product.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says operatives of its Makurdi Zonal Command have arrested twenty-eight (28) suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo Boys” in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
